A self drive tour in South Africa allows you the freedom to dictate both the route of your tour and the pace at which you would like to travel. On a self drive tour, we arrange all of the finer details of the tour for you, such as hotel bookings, vehicle rental and routing. We also give you a few ideas on what to see and do along the way.

•    Where can one do a Self Drive Tour?

Most of the South African tour packages that we offer on this website can be done as a self drive tour. If there are any changes that you would like to make to any of them, just let us know what they are and we will accommodate it as best we can. We can also tailor-make any tour in South Africa to suit your specific needs. A suggestion that we tend to give to visitors coming to South Africa who are considering a Kruger National Park Safari, is to do it as a fully guided tour. This way, you will get to make the most out of your experience by tapping into the superb knowledge our tour guides have about the area and its wild animals, their behaviour and the natural surroundings. When it comes to spotting certain animals in their own habitats, a trained eye in the bush is often a great help. The rest of your tour after the safari can then be arranged as a semi-guided tour in South Africa.

•    What happens when you arrive?

What will happen on a self-drive tour in South Africa is that a representative from Journey Into Africa Tours and Safaris will meet you on arrival at the airport and hand you all your documentation (hotel and vehicle vouchers, route maps, etc). They will then take the time to explain the details of your tour and routing to you and answer any questions you may have. Remember that you will never be alone, as we have a 24 hour assistance line that you can use to contact us at any time, should there be a problem or any further questions. Depending on how your tour is structured, we will either take you to collect you rental vehicle at the airport or we will transfer you to your hotel for the evening and your vehicle we be delivered to you at the hotel the next morning.

•    Safety:

South Africa has some of the best road networks in the world and our safety policy applies to all off our guests, which means it is our number one priority to never send you on any route where you are likely to encounter a problem.

Included in a Self Drive Tour:
