Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana safaris offer unsurpassed game viewing opportunities in one of the most beautiful reserves in Africa. With its rich mopane woodland and acacia forest, and vast floodplains and lagoons, the reserve is famous for its great diversity of plant and animal life. Moremi has a wide diversity of habitats, and the area is famous for the incredibly tall mopane trees which cover the central area. However, this mainland only forms about 30 percent of the reserve, with the remaining area falling within the Okavango Delta area. Birdlife is abundant and varied, with a range of species from water birds to shy forest dwellers.

Botswana game viewing in this area includes sightings of large herds of elephant, as well as buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal, plus antelope such as red lechwe. Black and white rhino were once found in the reserve, but the remaining few were moved to protect them against poachers. Wild dog, whose numbers are so rapidly dwindling elsewhere, are regularly sighted in the Moremi reserve and form part of a key conservation project that has been run in the area from 1989, so these animals are often seen wearing collars which are used to track and monitor groups living within the reserve. It is estimated that the Moremi area contains about one third of all living wild dog species.

The Moremi reserve is best to visit during the dry season, with game viewing peaking from July to October, when seasonal pans dry up and wildlife concentrates near the permanent water sources. Winter months from May to August can be ice-cold at night, but during the day temperatures are clear and warm. The hottest months occur from October until late November or early December, just before the rains. Malaria is a high risk throughout the year, especially during the rainy season. Roads can be difficult to navigate during the rainy season - therefore four-wheel drive vehicles are essential. There are a range of Moremi accommodation options available, from luxurious safari lodges to campsites - to suit most African safari tour budgets.

What our guests have to say...

Fantastic experience, beyond our expectations and great value for money. The lodge environment is a unique setting and true to its surroundings. Our personal guide Eugene Basson was educated not only on the wildlife, flora and fauna, but also the history and culture of the destination. We leave wiser and so appreciated this experience.
