BOT07 - 7 Day Kalahari & Delta on a Shoestring Fly-In Safari

A 7 day trip that allows you to spend three nights in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve where you will take part in a number of bushman activities as well as enjoy game viewing from vehicle and horseback. Next you will board a charter flight to the Okavango Delta area where you will spend three nights at the Oddballs Camp which is situated on the water's edge. Most of your time in the Delta will be spent doing game walks in the Moremi Game Reserve as well as mokoro boat trips on the waterways of the Okavango Delta. The trip ends back in Maun.

Days 1-3 of the tour
Upon arrival at Maun Airport you will be met by a company representative who will assist you to board your charter flight (50 minutes) to Grassland Bushman Lodge. Grassland Bushman Lodge is situated on the western side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Ghanzi District of Botswana, the property is a private wildlife reserve of some 15 000ha. The Central Kalahari has been home to the owner’s family for five generations and they would love to share their passion and first hand knowledge of the Kalahari with their guests.

The lodge is somewhat different from others in that you encounter in Botswana. The family are proud citizens of Botswana and apart from the family the rest of the staff compliment are made up entirely of San (Bushmen), most have worked alongside the family for generations. In fact the family has lived in the Ghanzi district for over 120 years. The lodge can accommodate up to 16 guests and are also able to accommodate families in a special family unit.

At Grassland Bushman Lodge the focus is on four main groups of activities: A very comprehensive San (Bushmen) experience, day and night game drives, the unique predator rehabilitation centre and finally horseback safaris - where guests get really close to wildlife.

Days 4-6 of the tour
After breakfast and check out, depart Grassland Bushman Lodge via light aircraft charter transfer flight (50 minutes) to Oddballs Camp. Oddballs is situated on the edge of Chiefs Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only. On arrival you will be met at the airstrip and welcomed to the island. Accommodation is in dome tents, fully equipped, and set on elevated wooden decks shaded by reed shelters. These tents are the same tents used by most mobile operators in Botswana. Beautiful outdoor showers and ablutions are shared. The bar and lounge areas have comfortable seating, and raised viewing deck overlooking the sweep of the delta - the perfect place to watch the sun set over the palms, and view whatever wildlife may be visiting. Meals are simple, yet wholesome and enjoyed in the main complex.

Unlimited activities are conducted by your own professional guide (a maximum of two guests per guide), a man of the swamp, born and bred. He has a mokoro (dug-out canoe) in which he will take you to nearby islands, where you will walk to view game and the spectacular landscape that is the Okavango. It might also be possible to visit his village, meet the elders and perhaps his family. Subject to water levels, it is also possible to go camping in the wild. Oddballs caters for the young and young at heart and undoubtedly represents the best value for money in the Okavango Delta. A relaxed camp with great reputation.

Day 7 of the tour
After breakfast check out, depart Oddballs Camp via light aircraft charter transfer flight (20 minutes) to Maun.
