From the Capital City of Maputo to Pemba and the Quirimbas Archipelago in the far north, Mozambique is a country of immense beauty and rich culture, with over 2500 km of unspoiled coastline, pristine white beaches and some of the finest coral reefs in the southern Indian Ocean. A vibrant mix of African, Portuguese and Arab cultures gives the country a fascinating ambience that is reflected in their architecture, food and the welcoming demeanour of the locals.

Access to the various lodges will depend on the scheduling of your tour in Mozambique. If you are travelling to the Inhaca Island or Maputo, then you will fly directly to Maputo on South African Airways or LAM. When travelling to the Bazaruto Archipelago, you will fly to Vilanculos on Pelican Airways and transfer to the island either by boat or air taxi. Barra Lodge has its own charter service that departs from Lanseria Airport, South Africa. Access to Pemba and the Quirimbas is facilitated by air to Pemba and then by air transfers to the islands.

The Journey Into Africa Tours and Safaris that are conducted in Mozambique take the shape of overland cabin tours. We can also arrange fly-in beach holidays to be arranged at your request - a perfect way to take in the beautiful beaches and islands at a relaxed and personalised pace.

The 10 best reasons to sign up for a holiday in Mozambique:

  1. The long tropical coastline has endless white beaches fringed with coconut palms and warm blue seas perfect for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.
  2. The vibrant Maputo nightlife starts late on Friday and Saturday nights in the city’s hotels, restaurants and nightclubs and continues until dawn washes over the horizon.
  3. The fascinating islands of Ilha de Mozambique, which despite years of civil war has retained numerous buildings that dates back to the 16th to 19th centuries.
  4. The bulging fishing nets brought in by local fishermen at the end of a long day at sea in their ancient dhows.
  5. The bustling markets with all the colours, sights, sounds and smells of a developing economy.
  6. The deep-sea game fishing that attracts fisherman from all over the world in search of marlin, barracuda, sailfish and swordfish.
  7. The vibrant mix of African, Portuguese and Arab cultures that give the country a fascinating ambience of both the tropics and the Mediterranean.
  8. Bird watching on the Bazaruto Archipelago and spotting the rare crab plover and green coucal, just two examples of the abundant birdlife on these islands.
  9. The coastal town of Vilanculos, which offers a gateway for the adventurous traveller.
  10. The beautiful islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, accessible by sea or air.

What our guests have to say...

We had a wonderful time at Kwa-Madwala Private Game Reserve. Our guide was great, really knowledgeable and so helpful. The staff at Manyatta Rock Camp were all so friendly and our game drives were the best! We saw all of the 'Big 5' in the Kruger and had a lot of fun learning all about the animals. Our only wish was that we could stay longer - next time!
