About the Lodge:
Sanctuary Chief's Camp is a luxury camp situated on Chief's Island, one of the many islands created by the seasonal floodwaters of the Okavango, in the exclusive Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve. The island was named Chief Moremi, the hereditary king of the area who used the land as his royal hunting grounds. The vast number of animals which congregate here make it easy to understand why the area was put aside for the chief. It was the Moremi people, the Tawana, who turned it into a reserve where animals are protected. The area is known as the "predator capital" of Africa and is considered to have the finest game viewing in Southern Africa including the Big Five.

Guests accommodation is comprised of 12 secluded, permanent luxury bush pavilions hidden away in a jackalberry and sausage tree woodland that is characteristic of the area. The main deck area is split-level and offers expansive views over the floodplain while the lower level of the deck houses an exquisite swimming pool. There is also a fire pit on the very edge so that guests can continue their game viewing while enjoying fine cuisine and wines.

This lodge has been designed with consideration for the environment - all rubbish is taken outside the park for responsible disposal and the whole camp can be removed without anyone knowing it was ever there.

Accommodation:
Chiefs Camp is constructed on a greenfield site and is made up of 12 luxury bush pavilions with each boasting en-suite bathrooms that have indoor and outdoor showers. Each room also has generously draped mosquito nets and traditional ceiling fans, a spacious seating area and private game viewing deck. They are also equipped with hairdryer, in-room safe, emergency intercom and mini-bar.

Activities and Facilities:
The main lodge complex houses the dining area, bar, curio shop, library and reception area. The main deck area is split-level and offers expansive views over the floodplain to the north. The lower level of the deck houses the swimming pool. There is a treatment room at the deck house with a range of treatments using Thalgo and Africology products. Electricity is supplied by a silent generator system allowing a 24-hour power supply.

Apart from its predators, the area is also renowned for its large concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo. Both white and black rhino were introduced here in 2001 and 2003 respectively. You will enjoy thrilling guided game drives lead by highly qualified professional guides in customised open 4x4 game viewing vehicles. Game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon. Explore the area up close as you get poled along at a gentle pace in a mokoro (dugout) canoe. This activity is subject to the water levels. Scenic helicopter flights can also be experienced over the Okavango Delta at an additional cost.

General Information:

  • Children under the age of 9 are unfortunately not able to stay at Sanctuary Chief's Camp. Families with children aged 9-15 must share accommodation with a parent.
  • This lodge is in a malaria area so the appropriate precautions should be taken.

What our guests have to say...

We have just returned from our third holiday organised for us by Journey Into Africa. As always we have been delighted with the immaculate organisation of the trip which this time was quite complex. All the aspects of the trip flowed seamlessly from one to another with all the transfers taking place smoothly. Our stay at the Royal Livingstone was relaxing and a good base to do the activities around Victoria Falls. The game drives at Chobe Botswana, were very productive with our guide ensuring we had good sightings of many different animals. Golf at Fancourt was relaxed and a great place to end our stay in South Africa. We would certainly recommend booking with JIA. Dealing over the internet is no problem and queries are always answered immediately. We would certainly return for a fourth time.
