Daily Itineraries at Private Game Lodges |
|
The daily itineraries for most Private Game Lodges in the Kruger National Park area are mostly the same for each night's stay as follows:
|
13:00: Arrive at the lodge to a warm welcome and take time to check into your room before you enjoy a light lunch. After lunch there will be time to relax at leisure.
Late Afternoon: Embark on a 3-3½ hour 4x4 open safari vehicle sundowner game drive with your game ranger and a tracker. Dusk is often the time that you will start to see lions and other predators wake up from a long day’s nap and start to hunt. You will normally have the opportunity to stop in the bush and enjoy a drink and some snacks as you watch the sun go down. The last part of the game drive is done at night with the use of a spotlight.
Evening: After you return from your game drive you will then have some time to freshen up before all the guests get together for dinner. Dinner is normally enjoyed as a group around the fire, under the stars in the boma. Weather dependent, the restaurant may also be used for dinner. Dinner combines African and western cuisine giving the option of exciting new tastes to the more adventurous as well as more conventional alternatives for the more conservative. After dinner there are often stories of 'wild Africa' to be told by the game rangers as you enjoy your drink.
Early Morning: You will be woken up by your game ranger before sunrise and then have a cup of coffee or tea with rusks (local biscuits). You then depart on another 3-3½ hour game drive where you will witness the sunrise as well as have the opportunity to view more wild animals. Again, a short stop in the bush will allow for a cup of coffee before you return to the lodge for breakfast.
Breakfast: A leisurely English buffet breakfast is had at the lodge after which you can relax and have the rest of the morning at leisure until you check out at 11:00.
Game Walk: After breakfast most game lodges in the Kruger National Park also offer the opportunity to do a game walk with your ranger and tracker. These walks are not strenuous and are normally just in the vicinity of the lodge. Although there is always the chance to see wild animals while you are on foot, it is more about enlightening you to the smaller aspects of the wild. Your ranger and tracker will fill you in about animal tracks, medicinal value of plants, trees and much more.

All of the above is normally enjoyed within a 24 hour period while you are at the lodge. The usual length of a stay at most Private Game Reserves should be no less than two nights in order to get the most out of the experience. A good alternative is often to mix up your safari a bit with a night or two in the Kruger National Park itself, followed up by an extra night or two at a private game lodge. This way you will get the best of both worlds and the ultimate Kruger Safari experience.
